Aircraft Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic testing uses high-frequency sound to find internal discontinuities that cannot be seen from the surface, in both composite and metallic aircraft structure.

Ultrasonic inspection of a composite aircraft panel

Section 01

Ultrasonic Inspection Applications

  • Internal discontinuities in laminate
  • Composite delamination and disbond
  • Bond-line inspection where appropriate
  • Thickness evaluation where appropriate
  • Corrosion thinning in metallic structure
  • Pre- and post-repair verification

Section 02

Composite Ultrasonic Inspection

UT defines the true boundary of delamination and core damage, so composite repairs remove only what is necessary and leave sound material in place.

Section 03

Metallic Structure

On metallic structure, UT thickness readings help quantify material loss from corrosion or blending against allowable limits.

Mobile UT Inspection

Jax Aerospace is based at Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine. Mobile service is available throughout Florida and the Southeast depending on job scope, aircraft location, repair requirements, and equipment. Where a repair is better performed in a controlled environment, components can be brought to our facility.
